In our small classes you will have your own mentor, who will pay a lot of attention to you. You can talk to him or her about school matters as well as personal matters.
EOA students fascinate me. Each of them wants to learn Dutch, is highly motivated and always grateful. I see how well they adapt to Dutch culture. That’s not nothing, because many students come from countries where something has happened or where they have experienced trauma. I am also a trainer of “trauma sensitive education” myself. I understand that certain behavior can come from somewhere and therefore always start the conversation.
A mentor’s job is to guide students in order to achieve their educational goals; we do this through many individual conversations. Contacts with parent(s)/guardian(s) are good: we have short lines of communication, for example through our own school app. I always tell new students, “Really try to make friends here at school, talk about that which is in your heart. You are safe here. Try to reach your goals and get everything out of yourself that you have and can!”.
