Reading and spelling are the things I enjoy teaching the most. I find it extremely important that all pupils can read well after attending the EOA. After all, when you read, a world opens up for you. Reading also gives you the opportunity to take a break and completely cut yourself off from the outside world. Being able to read well is also very important for further education and your future.
That students feel welcome and safe in the Netherlands. The EOA is often the first school in the Netherlands where they will be taught. The EOA is therefore very special for many pupils. You come to live in a foreign country, you hear a foreign language all day, you meet strange people and you have to deal with strange customs and habits. At the EOA, another new start is made. It is so incredibly nice that, as an EOA teacher, I can mean a lot to these students and help them feel at home in another country.
Try to make friends quickly at school. Talk to students and teachers at school a lot.
For more than 30 years, I have enjoyed working in education. I have always had a great interest and passion in guiding and supporting pupils who need extra care. To be able to help pupils even better, I have always continued to develop and specialise. In our Expertise Centre, I focus on the following areas.
– Reading and spelling in NT2 (Remedial Teaching and Dyslexia Specialism)
– Traumasensitive Education (TSO)
– Executive functions
– Braingym
– Activating teaching methods and Moving Learning
I like it best when I can teach pupils something. Former pupils regularly come back to the EOA to tell me which school they are at now. Or they come years later and proudly show me their diploma from a follow-up course.
